Making (do) EVENT
At The SLVRRM
Making (do) was an event hosted by the new SLVRRM branch founded by Eric Williams, located in 900 Michigan. This event celebrated the art of resourcefulness and ingenuity, showcasing works that embrace the spirit of ad-hoc design. The featured pieces explored how creativity can thrive under constraints, transforming available materials into functional and meaningful designs.
Rekindle
This floor lamp emerges from the necessity of making do with available elements, embodying the spirit of ad-hoc design. Constructed from two distinct floor shades and a woven headpiece, Rekindle exemplifies the beauty of resourcefulness and creativity under constraint.
The mismatched yet harmonious combination of parts reflects a response to the world as it is, where the process of design becomes one of adaptation and repurposing rather than control and perfection. The woven headpiece introduces a tactile, handmade quality, celebrating imperfections and spontaneity in design.
The dual floor shades come together to create a unified whole, symbolizing how disparate objects, when thoughtfully combined, can generate something greater than their individual parts. Rekindle challenges traditional notions of refinement, reveling instead in the art of the unplanned and unrefined. It invites us to reconsider the aesthetics of everyday materials and their potential for imaginative re-use.
